Some small (2.5” x 3.5”) colored pencil drawings I’m sending to a little girl in Colombia who my family is sponsoring.

Anonymous said: Your work reminds me of One Piece :) Are you inspired by Japanese Manga? If so, what tittles do you recommend?

Thanks! I would say my style is partly influenced by manga (there’s probably some One Piece in there). I grew up reading Dragon Ball and Astro Boy comics, so those images are cemented in my mind. I really like the aesthetics of 60s, 70s, and 80s manga.

As far as recommendations go, I would suggest basically anything by Osamu Tezuka (Astro Boy, Phoenix, Black Jack), the works of Naoki Urasawa (20th Century Boys, Pluto) and Rumiko Takahashi (Urusei Yatsura, Ranma 1/2), Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa, Shigeru Mizuki’s Kitaro, and Mitsuru Adachi’s Cross Game.

I put together a portfolio on Behance. Nothing new, but it’s a way for me to organize some of my better pieces.

Some rough sketches I made from the drawing suggestions I was given this morning.

1. A child asking an old magpie for directions

2. Cockatiels in space

3. Cats in a giant robot costume

4. The new king of Spain

What should I draw?
